IHA HISTORY

For 30 years, IHA has maintained a clear vision to create and preserve quality affordable housing to meet the needs of the residents of the communities we serve.
IHA was founded in 1990 by more than 50 religious and community leaders in Western Maryland who were concerned by the absence of affordable housing.

Since its inception, IHA has completed more than 1,400 affordable housing units, which include single-family homes, townhomes, multi-family developments, and senior housing. IHA has also partnered with numerous community organizations in addressing housing, health, and financial stability challenges for special needs populations.
IHA's approach has been innovative and ambitious. Its strategy has been to develop projects in collaboration with local governments and social service agencies, as well as the business, faith and philanthropic communities.

As a catalyst in assembling land, financial, and technical resources, IHA has developed a successful model for community and economic development and has facilitated the investment of more than $230 million in affordable housing projects and initiatives across Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Currently, IHA serves rural and suburban communities in western and central Maryland and south-central Pennsylvania. Through the generosity of loyal donors, a dedicated Board of Directors, and a hard-working staff of highly qualified, mission-driven individuals, IHA has become the region's leading nonprofit affordable housing developer.

The organization is proud to have received more than 30 awards of excellence in recognition of its accomplishments.
