IHA HISTORY
Disturbed by the absence of any significant private
response to the growing plight of the region’s homeless and shelter-poor families,
Interfaith Housing Alliance was founded by more than 50 multi-denominational
religious leaders throughout central and western Maryland.
Incorporated in 1990 and designated a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1991,
the original Board of Directors actively raised funds and sought institutional development
expertise from the Enterprise Foundation.
In 1992, IHA was awarded a 3-year
matching grant totaling $250,000 from the Dupont Foundation, which enabled the
organization to open a small office in Frederick, MD.
Since then, several thousand
low and moderate income families, individuals and senior citizens have benefited
from our services.
